“A year in a democratic world, through the eye of visual arts”
The exhibition “A year in a democratic
world, through the eye of visual arts” will take place from September 13 – 17 at the Zappeion Megaron, on the occasion of the Athens Democracy
Forum. The exhibition will feature round 40 cartoons from New York Times
editorial cartoonist Patrick Chapatte. In addition, a collection of works by
Kathimerini cartoonists and Latin American, Spanish and Portuguese cartoonists across a number
of regional newspapers will be exhibited. Also, a special tribute to “Mafalda” by
Argentine cartoonist Joaquín Salvador Lavado “Quino”, with the auspices of the
Argentine Embassy.
In order to link the past to the present, and to create a level of
awareness that enables us to question whether the fundamentals on which
democracy was created remain relevant to the world we live in today, the cartoons
will be accompanied by the quotations of ancient Greek philosphers, including
Aristotle, Socrates and Solons and other key thinkers in history which express
the basic ideals on which democracy was founded.
There will also be an exhibition of Pulitzer Prize-winning photographs
from The New York Times and Reuters led by Yannis Behrakis, renowned Greek
photographer, photojournalist and senior editor with Reuters.

la óptica
de las artes visuales"
La exposición "Un
año en un mundo democrático, desde
la óptica de las artes visuales" tendrá lugar del 13 al 17 de septiembre en el Zappeion
Megaron, en ocasión del Athens Democracy Forum. La exposición contará con 40 caricaturas del caricaturista editorial del New York Times,
Patrick Chapatte. Además, se exhibirá una colección de obras de cartonistas de
Kathimerini y de
varios periódicos regionales de América Latina, España y Portugal. También, se hará un homenaje a la tira cómica
Mafalda del cartonista argentino Joaquín Salvador Lavado “Quino”, con el
auspicio de la Embajada de Argentina en Grecia.
Con el fin de vincular el pasado con el presente y
crear un nivel de conciencia que nos permita cuestionar si los fundamentos
sobre los cuales se creó la democracia siguen siendo relevantes para el mundo
en que vivimos hoy, las caricaturas serán acompañadas
por algunas citas de los antiguos filósofos griegos, entre
ellos Aristóteles, Sócrates y Solón y algunos pensadores claves de la historia,
que expresan los ideales básicos sobre los que se fundó la democracia.
De igual manera, se presenta una
exposición digital de fotografías premiadas con el Premio Pulitzer de los equipos
del The New York Times y Reuters y de Yannis Behrakis, fotógrafo griego de renombre, fotoperiodista y editor
senior de Reuters.

"Ένας
χρόνος σε έναν δημοκρατικό κόσμο
μέσα από τις εικαστικές τέχνες"
Η
έκθεση "Ένας χρόνος σε έναν δημοκρατικό κόσμο μέσα από τα μάτια των
εικαστικών τεχνών" θα πραγματοποιηθεί από τις 13 έως τις 17 Σεπτεμβρίου
στο Ζάππειο Μέγαρο, στο πλαίσιο του Athens Democracy Forum. Η έκθεση θα φιλοξενήσει
περίπου 40 σκίτσα του συντάκτη γελοιογράφων της New York Times, Patrick Chapatte.
Επιπλέον, θα παρουσιαστεί μια συλλογή έργων γελοιογράφων της εφημερίδας Η
Καθημερινή, αλλά και Λατινοαμερικάνων, Ισπανών και Πορτογάλων από διάφορες
τοπικές εφημερίδες των χωρών τους. Επίσης, θα γίνει ένα ειδικό αφιέρωμα στη "Mafalda"
του Αργεντινού γελοιογράφου Joaquín Salvador Lavado "Quino", με την
αιγίδα της Πρεσβείας της Αργεντινής.
Προκειμένου
να συνδέσουμε το παρελθόν με το παρόν και να δημιουργήσουμε ένα επίπεδο
συνειδητοποίησης που να μας επιτρέπει να αναρωτηθούμε εάν τα θεμέλια πάνω στα
οποία ιδρύθηκε η δημοκρατία παραμένουν εξίσου σημαίνοντα στον κόσμο όπου ζούμε
σήμερα, οι γελοιογραφίες θα συνοδεύονται από παραθέματα αρχαίων Ελλήνων
φιλοσόφων, μεταξύ αυτών του Αριστοτέλη, του Σωκράτη και του Σόλωνος, καθώς και
ορισμένων καίριων στοχαστών της Ιστορίας που εκφράζουν τα βασικά ιδεώδη πάνω
στα οποία θεμελιώθηκε η δημοκρατία.
Θα
υπάρχει επίσης ψηφιακή έκθεση βραβευμένων με το Βραβείο Pulitzer φωτογραφιών
από τις The New York Times και το Reuters, με ξεχωριστή θέση στις φωτογραφίες
του Γιάννη Μπεχράκη, φημισμένου Έλληνα φωτογράφου, φωτορεπόρτερ και
αρχισυντάκτη στο Reuters.
